Philippe Ménard - Conductor
Founder of the Orchestre philharmonique des musiciens de Montréal now in its ninth season, Maestro Ménard is very active in Greater Montreal in all range of orchestral music: symphonic concerts, operas, Broadway show or ballet. His passion for music then brought him to Université de Montréal under the supervision of Yolande Parent, where he obtained a degree in classical singing. While completing his undergraduate degree, he continued playing trumpet and began conducting courses with choir conductor François Ouimet. He obtained his Master’s degree in orchestral conducting at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal in April 2011, where he studied with Maestro Raffi Armenian.
He has also earned his place among the highest ranking members of the Cadet Corps of Canada. Throughout 2001 and 2002, he became Music Director of three wind ensembles within the Cadets: St-Vincent-de-Paul, Mont-Bruno and Ste-Catherine. Then, during 2008-2009, he was named musical director of the St-Jean’s Cadets’ wind ensemble. He was also Music Director at Eastern Cadets Music School during few summers.
In June 2009, Maestro Ménard became the Artistic Director of the Orchestre philharmonique des musiciens de Montréal (OPMEM). Furthermore, throughout the summer 2011, he was named the NationalAcademy Orchestra’s apprentice conductor to maestro Boris Brott at the Brott Music Festival. He also participated in different workshops in order to perfect his conducting skills: with the National Art Centre’s orchestra under the teaching of Maestro Kenneth Kiesler; with the Lévis Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Gilles Auger; and with the North Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Maestro Johannes Schlaefli.
Lecturer at the Music Department of the Arts Faculty at UQAM University since 2012, Maestro Ménard participated and produced several large productions last year: tribute concert to Felix Leclerc, the operas Die Fledermaus of Johann Strauss II, Carmen of Georges Bizet and Aïda of Giuseppe Verdi with Opéra Immédiat house production; West Side Story of Leonard Bernstein in March 2015 on a staging of Angela Konrad and choreography of Manon Oligny; the ballet La Bayadère with l’École supérieure de ballet du Québec. Maestro Ménard is Artistic Director of the Orchestre de chambre Sérénade since the season 2015-2016.
