History
Founded in 1989 by Carole Corman, the Serenade ensemble has developed considerable expertise in the interpretation of chamber music. Its members have grown up with the orchestra. In fact, many who started in the orchestra as students became young professionals and parents, and even... grandparents! Over the years, the ensemble has continually reinvented itself, such that today it includes musicians of all ages and backgrounds; and this diversity has helped define its unique character. While few members have chosen a career in music, all are motivated by a deep love of music. Under the inspired direction of Philippe Ménard, they continue to deliver passionate performances full of excitement and colour.
While at its core the orchestra is a string ensemble, wood, brass or percussion players have been invited depending on the repertoire. The group's repertoire is vast, ranging from baroque to contemporary music, from classical to romantic. Serenade performs various concerts annually in Montreal and the South Shore. On several occasions, the orchestra has collaborated with other groups to interpret choral and ballet pieces. They also organize special events such as outdoor concerts inspired by the cinema and the world of jazz.!
